Pindi Miriyam

I am not very sure why this recipe is called by name 'pindi miriyam',but in this recipe the main ingredients are Raw Rice and Pepper.

Pindi miriyam is simple, healthy and tasty recipe from south India. My aunt is queen in making this recipe.

Lets check out pindi miriyam from my kitchen today.

Ingredients:

Toor dal -1 Cup
Potatoes - 2(medium)
Salt

For paste:

Raw rice - 1 Tbsp
Black pepper - 1/2 Tbsp
Coriander seeds - 1/2 Tbsp
Dry grated coconut - 1 Tbsp
Red chillies - 2 or 3

Dry roast the above ingredients and blend it to smooth paste by adding little water as shown in the below figure.

For seasoning:

Ghee r butter - 1 Tbsp
Mustard - 1 Tbsp
1 Spring - curry leaves

Method:

Cook toor dal & chopped potatos in cooker till 3 whistle and keep it aside.

Now take ghee in a pan,add mustards, curry leaves.Once mustards start popping add the cooked toor dal and potatos.

Then add the blended paste to the cooked toor dal and Potatos stir it thoroughly. If the gravy is thick add little water and allow it to cook for 5 to 10 mins. Finally add salt, thats all.

It goes very well with rice, ghee on it.

Hi Annu,

Nice yummy recipe :) incidentally I've prepared pindi miriyam today at home and am posting it on my blog. Do check it out: http://whatscookin2day.blogspot.com/

Its called pindi miriyam coz rice flour gives thickness to the gravy and you get quite a strong flavour of pepper wiz miriyalu.
